Once again this year the Potholes Recreation Area is experiencing an early spring! Walleye action continues using blade bait, whistle jigs with worms, spinners and crawlers. One area that has been producing walleye is near Frenchman’s Wasteway where it enters Potholes Reservoir in 35 feet of water. With surface water temperature up to 51 degrees some largemouth are starting to show in Winchester Wasteway area. Largemouth Bass of five pounds, eight ounces have already been caught and released. Flipping jigs and grubs are working with our better days. Smallmouth action is starting in the Lind Coulee area to four pounds, caught and released. We have a new spinner bait that has been producing some fine smallmouth, the Johnson Spinner Bait, plus the Strike King Terminator spinner bait.

Another fun time right now is the migration of all birds to the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge and the Desert Lake are, which has great hikes, bird watching, plus fishing. The Sandhill Cranes are arriving daily.
