RITZVILLE — A 33-year-old Illinois man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with an early-morning homicide on Interstate 90 near Ritzville.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to the homicide location at milepost 201 for a report of a possible vehicle collision involving a pedestrian about 2:45 a.m., according to the ACSO. As deputies and troopers with the Washington State Patrol arrived they found Manuel Argomaniz-Camargo, 33, of Illinois, walking away from a vehicle.

Argomaniz-Camargo was carrying a 3-year-old child. When deputies and troopers contacted him he put down the child and raised his hands. The child reportedly ran into a trooper’s arms. Authorities checked the area and found a dead woman in the road. The woman had reportedly received numerous puncture wounds to her body. Argomaniz-Camargo was taken into custody and booked into the Adams County Jail.

The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed between Highway 21 and Deal Road for investigation into the homicide until about 10:45 a.m. A witness of the alleged incident told Spokane’s KHQ he pulled over on I-90 about 3 a.m. after seeing a man and child standing on the side of the road.

He said the child took off when he tried to approach them and he then approached what he believed was the man’s car, which was reportedly parked on the side of the road. He said the passenger window of the car was smashed in and he saw a woman’s body lying naked in the road with a screwdriver in her heart. A trucker also pulled over and witnessed the same events, the witness told KHQ.

The name of the slain woman has not been released. The incident is under investigation.
