LDS Church hosts Activity Day

| March 2, 2016 5:00 AM

MOSES LAKE — About 200 children gathered at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Nelson Road throughout the afternoon Saturday for the church’s Activity Day.

The day was split into two three-hour sessions, one for the boys and one for the girls. More than 70 boys and 120 girls between ages 8 and 11 participated in the event, which was devoted partially to service.

Each child brought at least one book Saturday to donate to Moses Lake’s chapter of Reach Out & Read, a nonprofit organization that incorporates books into pediatric care and encourages families to read aloud together.

Additionally, the LDS Church had gathered community donations of fleece, and the children took time Saturday to make fleece blankets for donation to the Foster Children of Grant County. About 60 blankets were made to be donated to some of the more than 250 children in Grant County foster care.

The children also made cards at one of their Activity Day stations for senior residents. The cards were going to be delivered to senior living centers in Moses Lake, the goal being to provide a pick-me-up or smile to seniors who have little or no family visiting them.
