Stan J Mort

August 5, 1958 – May 23, 2016

Stan J Mort past away at St Josephs Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. on May 23, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife Linda and his family.

Stan was the third child born to Marvin and June Mort in Aberdeen, Wash. on Aug. 5, 1958.

Stan was quite the athlete growing up, winning several awards in swimming and tennis. While in high school Stan teamed up with Warren Morgan in doubles tennis where they won the Caribou Trail League in Chelan, Wash. Together they only lost one match that year. Later he became an avid bowler, playing on several leagues. Stan moved to California where he continued his love for tennis winning many matches and trophies there. Later he gained a love for bowling and bowled on several leagues. He excelled in any sport he took on. Stan was a history buff and knew many dates and facts accurately. You could ask him any question and he would know the answers.

Leaving California and Tennis behind Stan and Linda moved back to Washington. Having studied in college to become a telecommunications technician, he gained employment with Verizon in California, later transferring to Tacoma, Wash., working for them for 17 years. He then worked for Windstream Communications, Tacoma, Wash.

Stan and Linda met in California 29 years ago in 1987 when Linda had just arrived home with fresh tomatoes from her garden and offered some to Stan and his roommate. They became best friends, marrying on Jan. 28, 2005, gaining an instant family and Stan was very proud of them. They were each other’s rock. Together Stan and Linda raised Linda’s daughter, Kristina and Linda’s granddaughter Natalie. Stan loved them as his own. He taught Natalie how to fly kites and skip rocks. As a family they traveled most summers to Ocean Shores and Seaside, Ore. to fly kites and ride horses and enjoy being together as a family. He loved lakes and the ocean, anywhere by the water where he could fish. Stan loved being a family man and never would do anything without them.

Stan is survived by his wife Linda E. Mort; stepdaughter Kristina; step-granddaughter Natalie; parents Marvin and June Mort; brothers Calvin Mort, Steven Mort, Michael Mort, Thomas Mort and sister Beverly Kelley along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Stan was a humble, gentle, generous and loving man and will be missed immensely.

A private Celebration of Life was held at his parents’ home in Quincy, Wash. on June 25, 2016.
