Candidates forum slated for next month

MOSES LAKE — Voters can get a chance to meet candidates from five different local races in the upcoming August primary at a candidates forum next month.

The free of charge event is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m., July 19 and will be held at the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center, 900 E. Yonezwawa Blvd. Candidates representing the following local races were invited to participate in the forum: Grant County Commissioner District No. 1, Grant County Commissioner District No. 2, Grant County Superior Court Judge Position No. 1, 13th Legislative District Position No. 2 and the Fourth Congressional District.

The following candidates have filed to run for the positions:

Grant County Commissioner District No. 1: Richard Stevens, R-Soap Lake, Robert J. Dove, R-Coulee City, Myriam Villagran Diaz, D-Soap Lake, and Brian Fiess, I-Ephrata.

Grant County Commissioner District No. 2: Brian P. McGowan, R-Moses Lake, Tom Taylor, R-Moses Lake, James “Jim” Liebrecht, Nathan Pack, R-Moses Lake, and Casey Cooper, R-Moses Lake (Cooper previously told the Columbia Basin Herald he would not be campaigning and could not remove his name from the ballot).

Grant County Superior Court Judge Position No. 1: David Estudillo and Nick Wallace.

13th Legislative District Position No. 2: Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, and Jordan Webb, D-Moses Lake.

Fourth Congressional District: Dan Newhouse, R-Yakima, Clint Didier, R-Eltopia, John (the man) Malan, D-Pasco, Doug McKinley, R-Richland, and Glenn M. Jakeman, R, Yakima.

Ballots for the Aug. 2 primary will be available by July 13. Ballots for the Nov. 8 general election will be available by Oct. 19.
