Boy Scouts to collect food in Moses Lake on Saturday

| June 22, 2016 6:00 AM

MOSES LAKE — The Boy Scout Council of Moses Lake will be collecting non-perishable food items on Saturday. Donations will go directly to Community Services of Moses Lake (the Moses Lake Food Bank).

Boy Scouts from Troop 69, along with Washington Army National Guard Sgt. First Class Justin Morris, will gather donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Red Door Café, 202 W. Third Ave., Moses Lake. The event is a part of the Washington Army National Guard’s “Guard Against Hunger” program. The hunger initiative aims to reduce the impact of hunger on communities across Washington by engaging and educating students about the impact hunger has across the state.

The Washington Army National Guard encourages high school students to collect non-perishable food items for local food banks, with the Guard Against Hunger program providing the framework and “turnkey” backing for annual food drives, according to program coordinator Patches Cox.
