Former Adams County Undersheriff named new Moses Lake police chief

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake recently named current Rathdrum, Idaho Chief of Police Kevin Fuhr as the Moses Lake Police Department’s next chief.

Fuhr, who has over 26 years of experience in law enforcement, is no stranger to the area, as he was employed with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department for over 13 years and served in several positions in the department, including undersheriff.

City Manager John Williams announced the selection of Fuhr as chief on Monday following the retirement of Dave Ruffin in April and the subsequent search process for his successor. Fuhr’s selection follows an “extensive” recruitment and interview process, which was followed by a thorough on-site background investigation.

MLPD Capt. Dave Sands and Capt. Mike Williams, and Department of Fish and Wildlife Capt. Chris Anderson were also considered for the position.

“Mr. Fuhr was selected from a highly qualified pool of candidates and was ultimately selected based upon his past experience and his stated vision for our community,” Williams said. “Chief Fuhr has shown a high level of professionalism and community involvement in Rathdrum; I am looking forward to getting him on board and building upon the solid foundation that has been established by former Chief Ruffin and the outstanding men and women in the department.”

He has served as chief in Rathdrum since February 2007 and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Central Washington University, where he graduated summa cum laude. Williams said Fuhr will be starting on July 1 and will be formally sworn-in during the July 12 Moses Lake City Council meeting.
