ROYAL CITY — Because of the charitable work of employees at CHS Sun Basin and CHS Connell Grain, the Royal Food Bank will be better able to serve the nutritional needs of its less affluent residents.

The CHS entities handed members of the RCFB a check for $2,835. Other contributions were made to Community Services of Moses Lake, Ephrata Food Bank, Soap Lake Food Bank, Quincy Food Bank, Othello Food Bank, Royal City Food Bank, Connell Food Bank, Toppenish Community Chest and Second Harvest of Pasco.

CHS Connell Grain and CHS Sun Basin joined CHS locations across the country in sending more than $650,000 and nearly 400,000 pounds of food to hungry families through the annual CHS Harvest for Hunger food, funds and grain drive led by the Country Operations division of CHS, the nation’s leading farmer-owned cooperative.

Since the program’s launch in 2011, more than $4 million and 2.7 million pounds of food have been raised. Donations collected from March 1-20, as well as additional contributions by CHS, went to food shelves and other charitable organizations in the local communities we serve.

CHS Sun Basin held hot dog feeds and roller-skating, while CHS Connell Grain held bowling tournaments and School Specialty Day food drives to help raise food and funds.

“It’s exciting and inspiring to see our communities, our employees and local producers working together to help those in need,” said Mel Domine, vice president PNW and County Operations. ‘Through CHS Harvest for Hunger and the value of the cooperative system, every dollar and donation is magnified to make a much greater difference in the fight against hunger.”
