Desert Aire man dies in pickup crash

DESERT AIRE – A 34-year-old Desert Aire man was killed Friday, June 5, in the evening during a collision about one-half mile east of Desert Aire on East Desert Aire Drive.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Jorge A. Camilo Velez was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup west on East Desert Aire Drive. He failed to negotiate a slight bend in the road and lost control.

The pickup crashed into apple bins stacked along the south side of the road. Camilo Velez died at the scene.

Camilo Velez’s body was placed in the care of Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison. His staff will conduct an autopsy.

Camilo Velez was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was a factor in this crash, the GCSO reported.
