BEVERLY — A Mattawa driver fell asleep at the wheel in the late evening of June 1, and the resulting crash sent him and a Mattawa woman to the hospital.

According to the Washington State Patrol, neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor. Driver and passenger were using proper safety restraints.

Antonio Quiterio Magallon, 48, was westbound on Beverly-Burke Road at Highway 243 at about 10:30 p.m. when he fell asleep. His white 1996 Ford pickup left the roadway and crashed.

Magallon’s passenger, Emelia Simon Martinez, 44, of Mattawa was injured, as was Magallon. Both were taken by ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. The pickup was removed from the scene by Davis Towing of Schawana.

Magallon was cited by the WSP for second-degree negligent driving.
