Indiana Tech men secure national title, women earn second place honors

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Kayla Grigg, a former Moses Lake High School track and field standout, was among those listed on the official and complete NAIA entry list for the 65th annual Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championships and 36th annual Women’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 26028 as the Indiana Tech track and field program had 44 individuals and five relays between the two teams qualify.

The Indiana Tech women’s outdoor track and field team opened up the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Thursday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

Grigg competed in the long jump, entering the championship competition ranked 34th. However, Grigg’s leap of 5.24 meters (17’ 2 ¼”), placed second in her flight. The jump improved her national standing, finishing the 2016 outdoor season tied for 20th.

The Indiana Tech women’s outdoor track and field team nearly made an incredible comeback at the meet on Saturday as they finished second with 66 points with the championship being decided in the final event, scoring all of their points in the last day of the meet.

The Indiana Tech men’s outdoor track and field team capped off the 2015-16 season in style with their third outdoor championship in four years as they swept both the indoor and outdoor titles.

Tech finished the meet with 86 points, 34 points ahead of Concordia who led with 37 after two days. The Warriors had an impressive final day by scoring 64 points for their third outdoor championship, tying them for fifth most all time in NAIA history.
