MATTAWA — The Wahluke Slope community will see two soccer camps for youths in June.

The established UK Soccer Camp will be held June 13-17. The girls and boys soccer programs at the high school will launch the Wahluke Youth Soccer Camp June 27-July 2.

The UK Soccer Camp was brought to Mattawa by Maggie Celeya, now a member of the Mattawa City Council. It has been successful.

“She took her children to the same camp in Ellensburg a few years ago and decided to bring the camp here to Mattawa,” Wahluke High Coach Arthur DeVictoria said. “Without her help, we would not be able to provide such a high-quality camp to our community.

The High School Camp will be held June 13-17 at the Wahluke High School Soccer Field, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The fee for attending will be $60, and each participant will receive a camp T-shirt in conjunction with attendance.

“My understanding is that we will have at least two coaches from the UK International Soccer organization training and coaching our young players,” DeVictoria said.

The Wahluke Youth Soccer Camp (WYSC), on June 27-July 2 is sponsored by the Boys and Girls Soccer Program at Wahluke High School.

“We are hoping that this becomes an annual event as well, and it will be if we can get enough attendees,” DeVictoria said.

This Camp will be held at the Wahluke High School soccer field, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day. The tentative fee for attending is $30. It is for ages kindergarten to seventh grade.

“We ran something like this earlier in the boys season, but we want to do something larger with as many students as possible,” DeVictoria said.
