Compost class offered

| June 1, 2016 6:00 AM

Ephrata — Learn how to compost your yard and garden waste at a free class offered by Grant County Solid Waste on Thursday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m.

It will be held in the Grant County Public Works public meeting room located at 124 Enterprise St. SE, Ephrata. The class will last approximately 60 minutes.

After attending the class, one participant from each household will receive a free, portable compost bin. Participants do not need to pre-register to attend.

According to Solid Waste’s Joan Melvin, composting is a way of turning yard and garden waste into a beneficial resource that helps plants grow healthier and faster by keeping the soil loose and well drained.

While compost is not a substitute for fertilizers, it does contain beneficial nutrients. Composting may save you money by reducing how much you throw away.

The class is sponsored by Grant County Solid Waste and the Washington State Dept. of Ecology. For more information, contact Melvin at Grant County Solid Waste at 754-6082.
