MOSES LAKE — Local piano teacher Doreen Slaugh was honored at the Washington State Music Teachers Association conference in Walla Walla. She was inducted into the 2016 WSMTA Hall of Fame on June 21.

Doreen received her elementary education degree from Brigham Young University with a minor in music. She became a nationally certified teacher in September 2006. After earning her National certification, Doreen said, “I always enjoyed learning new things. I really enjoy teaching music. I thought about retiring, but I like it.” Her philosophy is that teachers who stop learning also stop being good teachers. She loves working with children and adults of all ages, being daily immersed in music. Her life affected others around her, touching one heart after another.

Doreen is a very well-trained musician, a fine pianist, and a very dedicated teacher. She has been teaching piano for the past 40 years and has been a member of WSTMA. During these years she has served many times as a Moses Lake chapter president, vice-president, secretary, adjudications and ribbon festival chair.

For the past two years, Doreen has served on the WSMTA Board of Directors as the District V vice president, as well as the Moses Lake chapter president.
