ROYAL CITY — The Royal City SummerFest organizing committee tried something new this year, and it worked to the benefit of the Royal City Food Bank.

Instead of a Saturday morning fun run, usually in summer heat, the runners participated in a glow run. Nearly 200 signed up for the 5K run/jog/walk. All of the funds generated by the entry, minus event expenses, went to the food bank.

There were several race winners and placers, and then there were some glow winners. Tying for first place in “Most Glow” were Staci Cochran and Bri and Caitlyn Diaz. Perla Garcia took second place.

The race winers, by age level, were:

  • Age 10 and under: 1st Kenia Orth 21:30; 2nd Caden Allred 24:37.
  • Age 11-14: 1st Adalberto Valdez; 2nd Aram Garnick.
  • Age 15-18: 1st Aaron Lane 18:37; 2nd Osbaldo Hernandez.
  • Age 19-35: 1st Teddy Mead; 2nd Riley Lefler.
  • Age 36 & up: 1st Carmello Mendoza; 2nd Jorge Hernandez.
