Spuds sweep Flames at home

MOSES LAKE — A combined effort of dominant pitching and timely hits helped Central Washington complete its sweep of Hanford.

In Game 1, Cade Tunstall zipped through Hanford’s lineup en route to a complete game that took just about 80 minutes. The Spuds hung four runs on the board in the fifth inning to win 4-1.

Nursing a 4-3 lead in the nightcap, the Spuds rallied for six runs in the sixth to win comfortably 10-4.

Tunstall pitched six shutout innings before a two-out walk and RBI double in the seventh allowed Hanford to creep back into the game. After a single put runners on the corners, Tunstall regrouped to record a game-ending strikeout.

The Spuds’ offense came early in Game 2 with three runs in the first inning. Central Washington led 4-1 in the sixth before a wild pitch by Carter Stout allowed two runs in.

In the home half, the Spuds added some insurance runs. After a throwing error put runners on second and third base, Kameron Huberdeau delivered a two-run single. Huberdeau later came around to score on a passed ball.

The Spuds extended their lead with three straight RBI doubles. Bailey Sanchez started the hit parade, followed by Nate Ball and Cameron Duke.

Duke took the mound in the seventh inning and allowed one run before retiring the side.

Central Washington closes its league schedule with a doubleheader at Hanford today. The Spuds’ regular season finale is at Coeur d’Alene July 16.
