MOSES LAKE — Greg and Theresa Nevarez have been a part of the Moses Lake community for decades. They weren’t born here, but they are definitely from here.

Moses Lake is a tight-knit community where they know their neighbors. It’s a good place to live and great place to raise a family. Greg helped serve and protect this town for 12 years on the Moses Lake police force. Theresa moved here from Texas when she was six. It is home and with that in mind, they opened Speedy’s Detailing at 1627 W. Broadway Ave.

Yep, they can get the dirt off and put the shine on.

“One thing we’re trying to do is help out our local car dealers. We want to keep everything local as much as we can. My husband have both lived in this community for over 30 years,” said Theresa. “We’re a mom-and-pop business and if we don’t support each other we’re going to go under. We love here. We’re growing, but we’re growing at a slow enough pace that we’re growing with our community.”

Moses Lake is one part agriculture, one part fun in the sun and 100 percent hard-working people and Speedy’s Detailing hopes to service vehicles of all facets.

“We do a lot of trucks. We’re starting to pick up a lot of SUVs. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that people are traveling because it’s summer time,” Theresa said. “We’re also doing a lot of farm trucks. God bless our farmers, they’re in the trenches. They put their trucks through a lot with the dirt. So our clientele has been both ends of the spectrum so far.”

Detailing is about, well, attention to detail. They restore exterior as well as interiors with preventive measures on high-end vehicles as well as put the shine back on older models.

“You need to have your vehicle detailed every six months,” Theresa said. “We do three coats of wax on a full detail. We buff out water spots. We buff out oxidation, which protects your paint. It helps, especially in the winter with all the stuff they put on the road for the weather.

“We shampoo the carpet. We treat the leather or vinyl. We shine the tires. People don’t understand that water spots don’t come out with one application. They get baked into a surface, so we have to have to use special cleaners to get underneath the spot to bring it out.”

In a lot of ways, Speedy’s attention to detail goes back to Greg’s days on the force — to serve and protect. They business approach is about taking care of neighbors and doing the job right.

“It’s true, men are infamous for babying their toys, their boats and their RV’s and their trucks,” Theresa said. “They like ’em clean and looking sparkly and we’re happy to oblige.”
