Do you want to be great? Hint: it starts with love

Jesus gave us a description of greatness in Matthew 20:25-28 (New Living Translation), when he said, “But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We live in a country of freedom, but many times that freedom makes us feel superior to others and because of our selfishness we take advantage of other people. Whether it’s in the business world, the political scene or in our personal relationships in our families, we think and act about our “personal rights” before we think of others.

When Jesus was asked about which commandments were the greatest, he responded in Matthew 22:37-39 “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Do you want to be truly great and fulfill your God given potential? Love the Lord with your being and serve others unselfishly and you truly will be great. If you do that, you will hear Jesus say to you, …‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord,’ according to Matthew 25:23 New King James Version.
