Spuds rally to salvage split with Titans

MOSES LAKE — Central Washington scored four unanswered runs to salvage a split against Twin City Tuesday at home.

The Spuds struggled defensively in the opener, committing five errors, and lost 5-2. In the nightcap, Baily Sanchez was awarded home plate on a balk and Cameron Duke scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Central Washington tacked on two more runs to win 9-6.

Twin City jumped on Central Washington early in Game 1, scoring two runs each in the first and third inning. The Spuds cut the deficit to two after scoring once in the fifth and sixth.

In the sixth inning, Cody Goodwin’s sacrifice bunt was able to bring home Nate Ball.

Twin City took advantage of two Central Washington errors in the seventh inning to add one insurance run. Tyson Brown smacked a RBI double into right field.

The scoring came early and often for both teams in Game 2. The Spuds lead 4-1 after the first inning before the Titans regained the lead with a five-run second.

Central Washington scored once in the third inning and took the lead for good in the fourth when Sanchez and Duke scored.

In the fifth inning, Goodwin was able to come around to score on a throwing error that sailed past the Twin City first baseman and into right field.

With the bases loaded, Ball was hit by a pitch.

Tyson Yamane recorded the save, retiring the Titans in order in the seventh inning. The pitcher from Warden induced two ground balls to Cade Tunstall and shortstop and fielded a dribbler for the third out.
