Joyce Hope Pinkerton

Joyce was born in Opportunity, Wash., just east of Spokane, on June 29, 1922.

Joyce rejoined her husband, Romaine (Pinky) Pinkerton in their eternal home on July 1, 2016,

Joyce spent most of her childhood in Soap Lake and Ephrata, Wash. Her parents, Case and Iva Bonthuis, owned a butcher shop on Main Street in Soap Lake. Joyce attended Ephrata High School.

Joyce married Pinky, a U.S. Navy Corpsman, who served in the Pacific in World War II. After the war, they moved to Seattle where Joyce began a career working at Boeing in the printing department, and gained a reputation for high quality work. After her retirement, Joyce and Pinky moved to Soap Lake, where they enjoyed life into their late 80s. Pinky passed on in 2007. While living in Soap Lake, Joyce was a regular attendee at First Baptist Church. They enjoyed hosting family and friends and canning fruit and grape juice from their trees and grape vines.

Before her 88th birthday, Joyce moved to Brittany Park Assisted Living in Woodinville, Wash., where she lived until June 2016.

Joyce is survived by three children: Brenda Peters (Benjamin) of Lincoln, Calif., Darlene Maloy (Keith) of Caldwell, Idaho, and Kenneth Pinkerton (Patricia) of Woodinville, Wash. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeannine Smith and her husband, Romaine (Pinky) Pinkerton.

Joyce is remembered for her cheerful smile, her amazing pies and her consistent generosity to her kids and grandkids. She was a very hard worker and seldom spent money on personal desires, but enjoyed helping out her family whenever they had a need.

Graveside services will be held at Ephrata Cemetery, 333 East Street SW, Ephrata, Wash. at 1 pm on Wednesday July 6, 2016.
