ROYAL CITY — The story last week about two golf tournaments upcoming at the Royal Golf Course was headlined incorrectly. The $5,000 putting contest will be part of the second tournament.

The Royal City SummerFest Glow Ball Golf Tournament at the Royal Golf Course on July 9 is expected to be a big event in its second year. That’s because of the night-time nine and pot-luck dinner between nines.

The tournament that follows, The Dog Days of Summer on Aug. 27, may be just as big. There will be a $5,000 prize for the winner of a putting contest.

The second annual Royal City SummerFest Glowball Golf Tournament has been expanded to 18 holes. It will be played like a day-night doubleheader in baseball.

The expansion will not take the players past midnight. Rather, they will start the front nine at 6 p.m. After the daylight nine, players will share a potluck dinner. The glow ball nine should start at about 9 p.m.

The four-person scramble will be limited to 12 teams. The entry fee will be $40 per individual or $160 per team. Riding golf cars must be arranged separately. Call 346-2052 to reserve one.

The the four-person scramble tournament will feature a shotgun start for each nine.

The entry fee covers green fees, placing prizes and tee prizes. First, second- and third-place teams will be rewarded. There will also be a raffle for various other prizes.

Glow ball golf is played with golf balls that glow. Fairways, greens and holes are marked by glow sticks. Riding carts are marked, and players carry flashlights as their own markings.

For the annual August Dog Days of Summer, Royal City Harvest Foods will sponsor a $5000 grand prize for a three-putt combo contest. Players will get a chance at sinking a 10-foot putt, a 30-footer and a 50-footer in succession.

The first player to make all three will walk off with $5,000.
