Public comment sought on how to save Royal City Golf Course

ROYAL CITY – It’s been rumored for months that the Royal Golf Course is in danger of being closed permanently. Now the rumors have been confirmed.
The way things stand now financially, the course probably won’t survive another year. Board of directors member Pete Christensen said last Saturday there is enough money to start this year, but if players don’t come out, the season may end early, and the course may be closed.
There will be a meeting at the golf course pro shop on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. The public is asked to attend to, first of all, to say whether it would like golf course to be saved and, secondly offer ideas on how to go about saving it.
Use of the Royal Golf Course land was gifted to the city back in the early 1980. Christensen believes the land would revert back to the Bureau of Reclamation.
The golf course that was placed on that land was a gift to the community from several farmers who used their and levelers and tractors and rakes and hoes.
Considering that most players in the community don’t have the time to play golf now, it’s a wonder those benefactors had the time to build the course.
