WARDEN — Entering the weekend, Warden head coach Wes Richins felt some slight trepidation even though his team would be heavily favored against one-win Soap Lake and winless Tonasket.

And for a quarter his fears were realized.

“Soap Lake game we came out really flat and couldn’t hit anything,” Richins said.

Despite the slow start, Warden rallied to take a 12-point halftime lead and beat Soap Lake 54-32.

“I was really proud of our effort down there,” Richins said. “It’s always a struggle in that gym.”

The Eagles continue to search for their first CW2B South win.

Soap Lake has come close to beating White Swan, Waterville, Mabton and Kittitas, but have struggled with Warden, losing by an average of 22.5 points.

Tonasket had no answer for JR Delgado, who scored 21 in the first half.

Delgado scored the first 10 points for Warden in the 66-35 dismantling.

Also, Sergio Vela had a career-high 15 points on five made three-pointers.

Thanks to Mabton’s 63-53 win over Kittitas, the Cougars and Vikings are tied atop the league standings.

Moses Lake loses back-to-back games

YAKIMA — Moses Lake continued its slide down the CBBN standings after losses to Wenatchee and Davis.

The Chiefs held a 44-33 lead over the Panthers after three quarters. However, Wenatchee outscored Moses Lake 28-11 in the fourth quarter to win 61-55.

Turnovers to start the final period allowed Wenatchee breakaway layups to cut into the deficit. The Chiefs also struggled to contain Gavin Long, who scored 30 points and threw down three thunderous dunks.

Cesar Sandoval and Zack Phillips scored 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Against Davis, Sandoval was slowed down after 13 early points. The senior post would finish with 19 points, not enough to counter the blitz from the Pirates who won 76-51.

It was Moses Lake’s third loss in a row, tumbling the Chiefs down to fifth in the CBBN.

Ricardo Gonzalez scored 13 points in the loss.

Ephrata 79, Wapato 73

EPHRATA — Ephrata’s defense tightened in the third quarter, holding Wapato to eight points.

That stand allowed the Tigers to open up an 11-point lead and hold on to a 79-73 win.

Quint Ostrowski scored a game-high 22 points. Collin Ahmann added 16 points and six assists.

Othello drops games to Ellensburg, Selah

SELAH — Othello couldn’t corral Ellensburg’s Coleman Sparling in a 67-56 loss.

Sparling exploded for 29 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists.

Trenton Cutforth led the Huskies with 17 points.

Othello was overwhelmed on the road at Selah and lost 81-28. Stellar freshman Elijah Pepper scored 22 points for the Vikings.

Cutforth scored a team-high eight points.

Quincy splits weekend games

Quincy couldn’t overcome a six-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and fell to East Valley 52-49.

Rafa Guzman led the Jacks with 13 points. Johan Farias and Daniel Garcia added 10 and 11 points, respectively.
