MLCA hangs on to beat Entiat, Yarbro posts triple-double
MOSES LAKE — Up by 12 points mid-way through the fourth quarter, Moses Lake Christian Academy looked to cruise toward a win over Entiat.
Then, with 2:44 left to play, forward Anna Yarbro fouled out.
With Yarbro sitting, Entiat went on a 9-3 run to draw within six points. However, the Lions staved off the Tigers’ rally and won 45-39.
“You like to be able to keep on flowing with the way things were going,” head coach Josh Kast said. “We did what we had to do to survive.”
Survive has been the mantra for MLCA this season. Struggling with injuries and eligibility, the Lions were forced to cancel games in late December. But with the return of Kyersten Hunt from a knee injury, Moses Lake Christian looks to have its full rotation for the stretch run.
“We haven’t played as a full unit all year long ... we’ve had five to seven different starting lineups on the year,” Kast said.
Entiat opened the game on a 6-0 run before Moses Lake Christian answered with an 8-2 run to tie the game. Back-to-back baskets by Dani Sandberg and Yarbro pushed the Lions into the lead for good.
Yarbro was masterful, posting a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals. Yarbro added three blocks to her already impressive stat line.
“She did a good job defending the post,” Kast said. “She did a good job fronting there.”
Yarbro’s running mate Sandberg scored a game-high 20 points to go along with three assists.
MLCA built a 31-20 advantage at halftime and led by as much as 14 points in the second half.
