A year of blessing

As we’ve entered into 2016, this new year promises to be a year of blessing, hope and peace. A mundane life has the tendency to make us forget that as the children of God, we truly are blessed and loved by the father and we are called to make a difference in our world, in our city and in our homes.

In 2016, I’d like to challenge you to get involved in something that is greater than yourself. We live in a world that is consumed by self, consumed by what we need to do in order to get ahead in this world.

The gospel teaches us something different, it teaches us to deny self and follow Jesus, and it teaches us that there are some causes that are bigger than our own. I think that as believers at times we have failed in truly taking up the cause of Christ in our community, perhaps it’s because we wonder if we could truly make a difference. In 2 Timothy 1:6, the Apostle Paul told his spiritual son, “Stir up the gift of God that is within you.” I’d like to say the same thing to you, stir up that gift! Do you know who you are? Do you know the one that lives within you? Do you know that the power that raised Jesus from the grave dwells within you? You are called, chosen and appointed for great things.

Oh Christian, if you would simply connect with the spirit of God within you, your life would forever be changed; instead of “me” it would become “he.” God is madly in love with you and he deposited his spirit inside of you so that you would go out and change our city and your neighborhood with the power of his love. People need you, your neighbors need you, your family needs you and your church needs you. Get connected, get a hold of the vision and run with it, you will find true meaning as you participate in something that is greater than yourself.

My prayer is that 2016 would be a year of unusual blessings for your life and your family, for Moses Lake and for our surroundings. Jesus in you will be the difference; get connected and run with your calling; this is your year of blessing.
