Royal girls played better in loss

ROYAL CITY — The score was 64-26, but Royal girls basketball coach Phil Daubel saw things he liked in the SCAC East loss at Connell last Saturday.

“We had some girls step up and have a pretty good performance,” he said.

One of those was Stephanie Rivera. She led the club with 10 rebounds. Samantha Dunn backed her up with eight, and Staci Hebdon and Guadalupe Guadarrama had six each.

“We had flashes of putting things together,” Daubel said. “We are going to keep working on putting that 32 minutes together.”

Scoring was balanced, with Elsie Delgado leading with nine points. Rivera scored five points, and Guadarama, Dunn and Bianca Castellon had four points each.

Royal’s next two games will be at home. They will host Cascade at 6 p.m. Thursday and River View at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
