Timothy Charles 'Tim' DeRooy

| January 12, 2016 12:45 PM

Timothy Charles “Tim” DeRooy died at home on Jan. 5, 2016 following an extended illness. He was 61 years old.

Tim was born on Sept. 13, 1954 in Everett, Wash. to Tony and Myrtle (Armstrong) DeRooy. He was the seventh of eight children. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Pioneer Jr High, and Wenatchee High School. He earned his GED in 1988, and had worked as a supervisor at Cedergreen Foods (later Simplot) for 25 years until his retirement.

Tim married Viola Monesmith on Oct. 30, 1989. They lived in East Wenatchee until 2006, when they moved to Wenatchee.

He fought and won a battle with throat cancer in 1995, then suffered a stroke in June 2008. Vi became Tim’s full-time caretaker, and without her expert and loving care, he would not have enjoyed the quality of life he had for the last seven and a half years.

Tim loved his family, and he loved to go fishing (which he learned from his dad), camping, music and his dog. He and Vi spent many days at local lakes & parks. He was a faithful Seahawks fan from their inception. He loved the earth and animals and cared about the environment. He spent the last day of his life listening to music, playing with his dog, and looking at the snow from the front porch.

He is survived by his wife Viola; daughters Mariah Monesmith-Kreider, Amy Monesmith, and Amanda Monesmith; eight grandchildren, Ashley Hoffer (Skyler), Spencer Ercanbrack, Treane Monesmith, Natasha Monesmith, Andrea Fimbres, Sara Kreider, Trevor Kreider, and Reyes Mora Jr; two great-grandchildren, Addisyn Hoffer and Kolbie Hoffer; sister-in-law Loretta Stanfield; siblings Sherry Bowen, Kathy Lumsden, Linda Holmes-Cook (Gary), David DeRooy (Doris), Diane de rooij, Vicki DeRooy, and Debbie Thune; and his beloved dog Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Myrt DeRooy, and brothers-in-law Don Coriell and Gary W Lumsden.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals who cared for Tim in his final days, especially Dr. Jeffrey Clarke. We’d also like to thank Telford’s Chapel of the Valley for their loving assistance and care of the family.

A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Telford’s Chapel of the Valley with interment to follow at the Wenatchee Cemetery. A reception will be held afterward at the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee at 941 S. Miller Street.
