Royal boys run over by freshman, fall to Kittitas

ROYAL CITY — Assessing Kittitas before last week’s non-league boys basketball game, Royal High coach Pete Christensen said the Coyotes have the best high school basketball player he’s ever seen.
“If we can stop him, we have a chance to win the game,” he said.
That Coyote is 6-foot freshman phenom Brock Ravet. He was not stopped or even slowed, and Kittitas ran away from a fighting Royal team, 80-47.
Ravet totaled 41 points with an array of shots, from layins to 35-foot bombs. He nailed six three-pointers and made 10-11 free throws. He even scored before the game started.
The Knights were assessed a technical foul during warmups when one of them hung on the rim. Ravet calmly stepped to the free throw line and smoothly swished the shots for a 2-0 lead.
Kittitas freshmen, which came to the high school with great promise, accounted for 63 of Kittitas’s points. Their team is now 8-0.
Ironically, all of this happened on a night when Christensen had three boys score in double figures. Sixteen fouls and 20 turnovers hurt.
Leading the Knights with a double-double for the third straight game was Kaden Jenks. He scored 19 points and took down 11 rebounds.
Corbin Christensen put up a double-double (13,12) of his own, and Carson Gilbert scored 13 points.
This trio’s shooting was good at 75 percent for Gilbert, 42 percent for Christensen and 41 percent for Jenks. But team shooting was only 35 percent.
