Explosive device found in Quincy, detonated by bomb squad
QUINCY — A explosive device was found in Quincy Monday and detonated by a bomb squad from Richland.
About 9:30 a.m. Quincy Public Works Department employees reportedly located the device while they were trimming trees on Central Avenue and B Street, according to Quincy Police Department Sgt. Chris Lafferty. Lafferty described the device as small, “about the size of a hot dog,” wrapped in black electrical tape with a fuse coming out of it. The public works employees thought the device looked suspicious and contacted the QPD, who then contacted the Richland Bomb Squad.
Lafferty said the bomb squad responded to the scene, secured the device and safely detonated it.
“They came into town and dug a hole, used their fancy robot to go grab it and stick it in a hole and then blew it to smithereens,” he explained.
If you have any information about the device contact the Quincy Police Department at 509-787-4718.
