1968 –2016

The family of Randy J. Fair regretfully announce the passing of 47 year-old Randy Fair on February 18, 2016 in Moses Lake, Wash. Randy was born to Roger and Dorothy Fair in 1968 in Seattle, Wash. In 1976, the family moved to Moses Lake where he continued his education and graduated from Moses Lake High School. Randy was the middle son and he had two brothers, Brian and Martin.

Roger and Dorothy encouraged both scholastics and athletics for the boys and Randy excelled in wrestling and swimming in his high school years. Due to his sheer will and work ethic, Randy made himself into a superior athlete. He won multiple high point awards while swimming for the Big Bend Manta Rays swim team where his swimming career began the same year as Tony St. Onge’s coaching career. Twice Randy qualified for and represented the Inland Empire’s swim team competing in the Western Zones swim meet (“Zones”), a rare feat due to the fact that he could only train during the summer before Moses Lake had an indoor pool. Ron Seibel next made Randy into a champion wrestler. In his junior year Randy surprised everyone winning the coveted Tri-State championship and finishing second in the high school state championship, losing in the finals by a single point. He went on to dominate his weight class as a senior despite a broken clavicle, but came up a little short at the high school state championships and finished fourth. Later as a young adult Randy returned to the wrestling team for five years as an assistant to Coach Seibel.

Randy attended the University of Washington where he made lifelong friends. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1990, he attended law school at the University of Oregon. Due to his Husky football loyalty he had to escape Eugene after a year and he transferred to the Seattle University School of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1993.

While in law school, Randy started dating Carolyn Jones, from Lynchburg, Virginia. After graduation in 1993, they both obtained jobs east of the mountains. Randy settled in Moses Lake and started working for Lukins & Annis P.S. while Carolyn secured a job as a Benton County Deputy Prosecutor in Kennewick, Wash. In 1995, Randy and Carolyn were married and while building their law careers, they also started raising a family. First came Addison, born in 1998, then Anna in 1999, followed by Jackson in 2002. Following family traditions, Randy and Carolyn encouraged scholastics and athletics with the children and all three have excelled in both areas where they are currently attending Moses Lake High School and Frontier Middle School.

Nothing gave Randy greater joy than organizing, coaching, and participating as a parent in his children’s athletic activities. He lived for the camaraderie amongst children and parents in the athletic community.

Randy is survived by his widow Sasha and daughter Lucy; parents Roger Fair of Moses Lake and Dorothy Fair of North Bend; brothers Brian Fair (Shirley) of Wenatchee and Martin Fair of North Bend; former spouse Carolyn Jones Benzel of Moses Lake and their three children, Addison, Anna, and Jackson Fair, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles that he loved and was loved by them.

Randy will always be remembered for his wonderful outgoing personality, original sense of humor and dedication to his children and family.

Randy’s family is so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community, family, and friends. It has provided great comfort during this time of immense grief.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at Moses Lake Presbyterian Church, 1142 W. Ivy, Moses Lake, with a reception to follow. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.
