Handgun class offered in East Wenatchee

| February 21, 2016 5:00 AM

EAST WENATCHEE — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will conduct handgun safety training for interested gun owners from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 26 at the North Central Washington Gun Club in East Wenatchee.

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said the training course is prompted by what he called “a sharp increase in the number of persons applying to purchase handguns and/or obtain concealed pistol licenses. The goal is to reduce the likelihood of injury or death by improper handling of handguns.”

Participants must be 21 years of age or older and can’t have restrictions on firearms ownership, he said.

“The objective is to educate citizens on proper handgun nomenclature, safety skills and proper techniques.” Course instruction will be from “NRA-certified instructors and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office handgun instructors,” Gjesdal said.

“There will be a live fire portion to allow students to practice their safety skills on the range.” People who interested in applying for the course can contact Gary Miner, 509-664-9582.
