Men's golf league forming

ROYAL CITY — Superintendent Shawn Vetterick, himself a quality golfer, has offered the first new viable idea to improve the amount play at the 9-hole layout Dodson Road.

Vetterick proposes a Thursday men’s golf league. It would have a 14-week run, starting on March 31 and ending June 30. Vetterick is suggesting individual play or possibly 2-man teams.

The entry fee for the year would be $25 per person. Handicaps would be established. The entry fees would go for prizes. The weekly green fees would be $15, and riding carts would cost $7.

“You would play nine holes against your opponent on Thursdays,” Vetterick said. “If you couldn’t play on a given Thursday, you’d just set up a time with your opponent and play your match before the next Thursday.”

Vetterick sees the Thursday competition not only as golf but also a social event. There could barbecues to which players would bring their own steaks or other ideas along those lines.
