Jurelle Brian Thorpe

August 2, 1994 – January 3, 2016

On Jan. 3, 2016, Jurelle Brian Thorpe finished his race and met his Savior after injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. Jurelle was born August 2, 1994, in Los Gatos, Calif. to his mother Andrea Thorpe. Though he was born in his family’s home state of California, he grew up in Moses Lake, Wash. with his parents, Andrea and Todd Rains and his siblings Kiara, Naomi, Hadassah, Joel, and Genesis. There he went to school in the Moses Lake School District and attended church at Grace Harvest Church, making many friends along the way. Jurelle played football in elementary school and the trumpet in middle school. He loved art and music, and was always up for a good prank on his family. He was self-taught in drawing and landscaping. He was well-read and loved flowers which provided the inspiration for his daughter’s name: Maurandella, a Californian wildflower.

Jurelle is survived by his parents Todd and Andrea Rains of Moses Lake, Wash.; His father Keith Smith of California; and his sisters Kiara, Naomi, Hadassah and Genesis and brother Joel, all of Moses Lake. He also leaves behind his girlfriend Brandi Purser of Port Orchard, Wash. and his daughter Maurandella Thorpe, also of Port Orchard. He is also survived by his grandmother Joyce Plymale of Omak, Wash.; his grandparents Charles and Karen Martin of Milwaukee, Wis; his Uncle Charles Martin, his wife Bebe, and their children Imani and Arman of San Ramon, Calif.; and his aunt Gigi-Shirrell Williams-Hartman and her children Daniel, DaeLyn, and DizZaye Alvarez of Moses Lake, Wash. He leaves behind a host of dear friends and family, aunts and uncles, and brothers and sisters he made along the way. Jurelle is proceeded in death by his maternal great-grandmother Jennifer Walker, his maternal grandmother Tena Williams, and his grandfather Karl Plymale.

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 20, 2016 at 1 p.m., hosted by Grace Harvest Church, 313 N. Fig St. Moses Lake, Wash.
