ROYAL CITY — A tough season continued last weekend for the Royal High girls in basketball as they fell, 56-30, to River View and 55-17, to Burbank.

Against River View, the Knights were done in by a 21-3 third quarter. That expanded the Panthers’ lead to 42-21.

“We played a solid first half tonight, and the ball was going in the basket, but we have to put together a full 32 minutes to win in this league,” coach Phil Daubel said.

The score was 21-18 at halftime.

Samantha Dun led the Knights with eight points. Bianca Castellon scored seven, and Jennifer Ledezma added six. Ledezma led in rebounds with seven. McDarra VonStein picked off four.

On Saturday, Burbank was just too much for Royal to handle. The Coyotes broke on top, 16-5, after one quarter and then added a 22-2 second period. The Knights did not score more than six points in any period.

“We had a rough shooting night against a good team,” Daubel said. “It’s hard to be in the mix when your shots are not falling for you. We also need to be better defensively. Burbank was able to get to the basket too easily.”

The Knights shot 16 percent from the field. They made five of 10 free throws.

Castellon and Ledezma were the leading scorers for the Knights with five points each. Annabelle Booth had five rebounds, and Castellon had four.
