Royal looks ready for wrestling post-season

ROYAL CITY — There may not be enough firepower to make a run at the state title, but the Royal High Knights wrestling is primed for another high finish – perhaps top 5 – at state.

With the return of senior team leader Darrin Miller at 170 pounds, Royal is set to pick off several individual state awards. Miller nursed a separated shoulder for five weeks.

Royal will return to the post-season with five state placers from last year. They have to add to the state squad with new qualifiers.

It all starts in two Saturdays right here at Royal with the SCAC East district tournament. Regionals (site TBA) will follow, then state. Royal will be favored at sub-district but will likely take second billing to Granger at regionals.

In their last big outing at the Spokane Convention Center last weekend, the Knights won one of four matches at the Dream Duals. But they were competitive in all matches.

The keys to look for in the listings below are which individuals put together a good weekend. In his return from injury, Miller went 2-1 in three outings.

“I thought all of the kids did well,” coach Randy Miller said.
