Moses Lake runner-up at CBBN league championship meet

MOSES LAKE — With two league champions and a host of swimmers placing, Moses Lake was able to finish runner-up to Wenatchee at the Columbia Basin Big Nine league championship meet.

Moses Lake was able to overtake West Valley for second place after trailing early. The Chiefs totaled 462 points, edging out the Rams by six points. The champion Panthers racked up 589 points.

Eastmont finished fourth, Davis placed fifth and Eisenhower was sixth, rounding out the team standings.

Like it has been all season, Moses Lake was led by its young swimmers. Freshman Noah Heaps and sophomore Ander Molitor accounted for three wins.

Heaps was league champion in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. Heaps finished his IM in 2 minutes, 10.02 seconds and freestyle in five minutes, 14.37 seconds.

Molitor set the pace of the 50 freestyle, winning in 23.05 second. Molitor’s time was more than a second faster than second place Kaleb Pringle of Wenatchee.

Garrett Lake, Mateo Mejia and Kyle Jorgensen also placed in the top eight, scoring valuable team points.

Lake finished third in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. Meija notched a pair of fifth place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Jorgensen came in sixth in the 50 freestyle.

In a pair of duals that had to be made up due to inclement weather earlier in the season, Moses Lake bested Eisenhower and Davis. The Chiefs beat the Cadets 131-54 and the Pirates 128-57.

Moses Lake’s next meet is the district championship, which starts with preliminaries on Feb. 4.

For the district meet, Mid Columbia Conference schools will join the slate.
