Prosser's pace too much for Quincy

QUINCY — It was just one of those games where too much to not enough pretty much sums it up and you move on to the next one on Thursday night.

Prosser's (6-2, 5-2) run-and-gun unraveled the Quincy half-court discipline and the Mustangs outscored the Jacks 25-7 in the third quarter and ran away with Tuesday's Central Washington Athletic Conference game 70-36.

The Mustangs dominated all facets of the game, most definitely on the glass where they hauled in 45 rebounds to Quincy's 36. It didn't help much that the Jacks (1-6, 0-5) were 16-of-51 from the floor for 31.4 percent.

“They were 6-foot-5 and 6-3 inside and we struggled on the boards because of that,” said Quincy coach Wade Petersen, whose team trailed 57-27 going into the fourth quarter. “I thought we did a better job on the boards than we did. But now that I'm looking at the stats, it was pretty one-sided. But the big stat tonight is the turnovers. We turned the ball over way too much (21) to play consistent.”

The only thing that was consistent was the Mustangs running game. They were 25-of-66 from the floor and just 2-of-14 from 3-point range. But the big thing was that they lured the Jacks into a running game and ran them out of the gym.

“I tried to step up and shoot from the perimeter tonight with them being 6-5 and 6-3 inside I didn't think there was much use in driving,” said Daniel Chavez, who finished with 12 points and five rebounds. “We're more of a half-court team, where we slow it down and make them play our game. But they got running we couldn't keep up. We'll go back to work and get things fixed for the next time.”

Scott Blakney led Prosser with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Noah Flores added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs. Chavez was the leading scorer for the Jacks with 12. Tyson Thornton added six and seven rebounds.
