MOSES LAKE — It looks like winter in the Columbia Basin with the latest winter storm dusting the area with a new layer.

But the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce is going to put a carnival spin with bright colors and festivities to bring in the new year with its Business Expo Jan. 17 in the commercial building at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. They currently have 61 booths, but there are a limited amount of spots available for local businesses to showcase their products and services.

“We have some new members that are being featured. We have some businesses that are joining (the chamber of commerce) just to participate in the Expo. It’s about 70 businesses on display in one location,” said executive director Debbie Doran-Martinez. “It’s a one-day display. But it’s two-fold. First, it’s an opportunity for our businesses to be on display to showcase their products and services, and it’s also an opportunity for the public to come and see what the business community in Moses Lake has to offer.”

The chamber will combine the Business Expo with the January Business After Hours, which opens up the door to a public invitation to the Business After Hours, a networking opportunity for business owners to get together in a social setting to discuss business options.

“The Expo will be like Business After Hours on steroids, because our normal Business After Hours includes about 150 people. This one will have 600 to 700 people,” Doran-Martinez said. “This is the big one.”

The Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce Business Expo is an opportunity for the general public to get better informed on new businesses or a leg up on what the Columbia Basin has to offer.

“This is great opportunity for a small business that might have new products or new services to be in the public’s eye,” said Doran-Martinez. “Sometimes there’s displays. We’ve had salons in the past do make-overs. We’ve had chiropractors do preliminary exams. We’ve had massage therapists to massages.”
