Prep roundup: Moses Lake downs Lake Stevens, finishes 2-0 in Wenatchee
WENATCHEE — Moses Lake used stifling defense to build a 12-point halftime lead and beat Lake Stevens 70-64.
It was Moses Lake’s second win in as many days against a team from the WESCO Conference.
“That team is pretty good,” head coach John Hohman said. “I thought they were a tough team. We played well in spurts.”
The Chiefs held the Vikings to eight points each in the first two quarters and led 28-16 at halftime.
Sophomore point guard Cory Kunjara scored a team-high 22 points; Zach Phillips tabulated 21 points and five rebounds.
Gio Walker, Ryan Karstetter, Michael Byers and Vance Alvarado added to the total with 25 combined points.
“We’re still learning and I’m learning with them,” Hohman said.
By and large, it was a successful two days in Wenatchee for Moses Lake — except at the free throw line. The Chiefs shot 50 percent on Friday and in the low 40s on Thursday after bringing in an 80 percent average.
“I’m glad that we’re done with the Town Center for free throws,” Hohman said.
Moses Lake travels to the Desert Edge Holiday Tournament in Goodyear, Arizona next week before resuming Columbia Basin Big Nine play against Eastmont at home Jan. 6
