MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was charged for alleging pointing a gun at his roommates in front of their young child.

Grant County prosecutors charged Shawn Gilmore, 43, of Moses Lake, with second-degree assault (deadly weapon).

On Dec. 9 the Moses Lake Police Department received a report of a verbal domestic incident in the 1000 block of Windrose Drive. MACC Dispatch advised a gun had been displayed and pointed at a person, according to police records.

When police initially arrived they were approached by a woman, who said the individual who displayed the gun, alleged to be Gilmore, was inside the Windrose Drive residence. Three people left the residence, including Gilmore, but no weapons were found on any of the three persons.

Gilmore claimed he had been letting his friend and his friend’s girlfriend live with him and he had served them a three-day eviction notice on Dec. 8. He said his girlfriend came downstairs earlier in the day to get a cup of coffee and starting arguing with his friend’s girlfriend. He claimed the argument became physical, with his friend’s girlfriend striking his girlfriend in the stomach. He denied brandishing a gun however.

Gilmore’s girlfriend gave police a similar story, stating there was no gun displayed during the confrontation. The woman who was allegedly arguing with Gilmore’s girlfriend told police she attempted to get food out of the refrigerator in the home with her boyfriend and Gilmore pointed a gun at them. A young child in the residence gave police a similar story, claiming he saw Gilmore display a gun.

“(The boy) stated he was downstairs with his parents when Gilmore came downstairs and pointed a gun at his dad. (The boy) described the gun as a small black gun. (The boy) stated he was scared,” wrote a officer.

Gilmore later came clean about the confrontation and confessed to bringing out a gun and pointing it at his friend. He admitted to recording the entire confrontation on his cellphone, which he showed to police.

“The video shows Gilmore walking downstairs and then through the hallway into the kitchen. As he approaches the kitchen you could hear Gilmore rack a round in the chamber,” wrote the officer. “The video shows (Gilmore's roommates) in the room where the food was. They began yelling at Gilmore to quit pointing the gun at them and they called the police.”

MLPD officers gained consent to obtain the gun in question, a 9mm Luger, which was reportedly found in a bedroom in the residence.
