MOSES LAKE — Students from Chief Moses Middle School collected so much food for the Moses Lake Food Bank they had to deliver it in a school bus. The students collected more than 9,000 cans, boxes and bags of nonperishable food.

They raised $1,834.81 in addition to the food, said food drive organizer Chris Mason Students from the two winning classes were in charge of the delivery. Students in the classes of Sharee Haughton and Jeff Mullin collected more than 3,600 cans, boxes and bags for donation, Mason said. Students in those classes got doughnuts and hot chocolate in class Friday morning, and the students earned a trip for bowling and pizza at a later date. Students and staff at CMMS has multiple projects all going at once, Mason said. The kids were collecting winter hats, mittens and scarves for donation to the New Hope center for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They collected donations of new and used toys for the Moses Lake office of Children and Family Services, and pet food and supplies for Grant County Animal Rescue.
