SOAP LAKE — The Eagle girls stayed on point and remained disciplined in winning their second game of the season with a 47-11 victory over Moses Lake Christian on Saturday at Soap Lake.

Soap Lake’s Evelin Lopez scored a game-high nine points. Aliah Harrison gave Soap Lake some firepower on the perimeter game, knocking down two 3-point goals en route to eight points, and Samantha White had six assists and seven points for the Eagles (2-5, 1-4).

The Moses Lake Christian girls were led by point guard Kyersten Hunt, who finished with nine of the team’s 11 points.

“I thought we really bonded as a team today. We came in excited to play and it was exciting to get to feel what it’s like to win and play well together,” said White. “Personally, I thought I helped lead the team. We’ve been working on our passing game on offense, trying to take our time before we get it inside. I felt like we did that today.”

To give the Moses Lake Christian some credit. It is a team with two eighth-graders, a freshman and a sophomore on the roster, so they are getting their first taste of varsity ball. On Saturday, it was all Soap Lake, which jumped out to a 25-3 lead and extended it to 34-5 in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles remained disciplined against a team which struggled at both ends of the floor and worked its offensive perimeter game before moving inside.

“I was trying to stay aggressive on defense and work on some things to get better,” said Lopez, a 5-foot senior. “I think our team is finally starting to bond and play together. I felt like we got better today. We started out strong because we lost last night. Today, we played together a lot better as a team.”

The Eagles held the Lions scoreless through the first quarter and to just three first-half points. The Lions best offensive quarter was in the final eight minutes when Hunt was able to drive the lane for a couple of layups, scoring six of her nine points in the final period.

“The big thing we got out of today was building that connection with teammates,” White said. “We’re starting to play together and that’s something to build on.”
