OTHELLO — The Bel Canto Women’s Choir of Yakima will perform a concert titled “The Real Meaning of Christmas” this Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Othello First Presbyterian Church.

Bel Canto is a choir of more than 20 voices. The concert will begin at 2 p.m., and there will be refreshments afterward.

First Presbyterian will have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day worships. There will be a family-friendly candles and carols service with open communion on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

There will be gift bags for children attending, and refreshments will follow. There will be another worship service on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.

Bel Canto recently completed its 65th year of bringing excellent music to the Yakima area. These women have sung around the state and around the world. They present a spring and winter concert each year.

A free-will offering will be taken. Half of the proceeds will go toward scholarships awarded by this group. Half will go to the mission project of the Presbyterian Church, to be announced at the concert.

Bel Canto awarded five scholarships to Yakima area high school students this year. The scholarships are to be used toward a music camp or workshop of the recipient’s choice or may be applied toward private lessons.
