Affordable Mini Storage has room for all that extra stuff
MOSES LAKE — If you have stuff.
You know, not enough room around the house, stuff. Too many summer play toys, stuff. Don’t live here, but want it here when you come to play in the lake, stuff.
Yep, too much of whatever, then Affordable Mini Storage at 3808 NE Ottmar Rd. has just the place to store it. Affordable Mini Storage has 58 units currently available with room for 58 more. The goal is to have 116 units available, but owner Chayo McKean said there is room for additional units down the road. They have 10-feet-by-10, 10-by-15, 10-by-20 and 10-by-30 units available.
“Ten-by-15 and 10-by-20 have been the most popular,” said McKean, who is also a broker/realtor at Gary Mann Real Estate. “We have people that are moving to Moses Lake and need the extra space. We also have people with just way too much stuff at their house.
“I have one lady that sold her house and is waiting for it to close, so she rented two units in the meantime.”
Affordable Mini Storage opened in September with encouragement from the Moses Lake Small Business Development Council and Allan Peterson, the certified business adviser.
“I can’t give Allan enough credit. He was a big help. I told him what our plan was and he did a study on it to let us know if it was a good idea or not,” said McKean. “He came back and said it was a great and that there was definitely interest in Moses Lake.”
McKean and her husband Jeromy graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1989. They studied at Fresno State University, but made their way back to the Columbia Basin.
“I think we spent one Christmas in California, and we didn’t like it because there was no snow,” she said with a laugh. “Growing up here, you get to where you expect snow for the holidays … like Christmas and Halloween.”
They returned to their roots. Jeromy runs McKean Concrete. Chayo is a broker and agent for Gary Mann and they run various side projects together.
“The Columbia Basin is a great place to raise your kids. We didn’t want to raise our kids in California,” she said. “It was too populated. So we came back to where we belong.”
