Moses Lake High School class of '61 thankful for reunion help

| December 15, 2016 2:00 AM

The Class of ’61 held their 55-year reunion on the weekend of Sept. 16. It was a great success, as always. Each reunion seems to get even better than the last. Our class started with 199 graduating and we had 42, plus spouses, attend our reunion this time. There have been quite a few that we haven’t been able to contact, plus 48 are deceased that we know of, but we felt our attendance was very good. We had classmates from all over the U.S. attending.

We started our weekend with the traditional evening at Chico’s on Friday. The next day a planned golf game was canceled because of rain, and then we all gathered at the Best Western that evening for a great buffet and time of visiting, with a program of introductions. We were also treated to musical specials by classmates Paul Piersall and John Golly. We were all happy to have Jim Fleming attend again. He is our classmate and a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and we are very proud of him. The next morning many of us gathered at the Best Western for a very nice brunch before saying “good-bye and see you in another five years.”

All of this would not have been possible if not for the dedication of Karen Rimple. She is the head of the reunion committee and does a superb job of locating people, keeping us informed of the event and planning the entire thing. Our reunion committee is blessed to have Karen as our leader and she makes our job easy. Karen spends countless hours on the phone and her computer making all of this possible and she does it because she totally enjoys seeing everyone having such a good time. About a dozen of the classmate “girls” from the Moses Lake area had such a good time that they have decided to meet for lunch each month to continue the fun. The entire class is thankful to Chico’s and the Best Western for their parts in the success and fun of the reunion. We also really appreciate the Red Door Cafe accommodating our planning committee meetings.
