Moses Lake places seven, finishes fourth at IE tournament
SPOKANE VALLEY — In a stacked field, Moses Lake finished fourth overall and placed seven at the Inland Empire Tournament at Central Valley High School.
Hunter Cruz scored 26 of the team's 137 points en route to a championship at 160 pounds. In the final match, Cruz edged Colville's John Knight 6-4.
Mead won the team title with 252 points. Lakeland and Pasco's Chiawana finished second and third with 178 and 171 points, respectively.
Daiman Vasquez (195) advanced to the semifinals before he was pinned by Lakeland's Jared Walker in the third round. Vasquez recovered to win his next two matches and finished third.
Beau Mauseth (170), who hadn't placed at Inland Empire before, took fourth. Mauseth dropped a 7-2 decision to Kamiakin's Sione Halo in the third-place match.
Carson Evans (285) — third on the heavyweight depth chart — surprised the field for fourth place. Evans won three of five matches.
Thomas Hamm (120), Christien Knopp (132) and Payton Castro (220 all finished fifth.
Ephrata fifth at West Valley Dual Invitational
SPOKANE VALLEY — Ephrata won three out of five duals at the West Valley Dual Invitational to finish fifth.
The Tigers outlasted Shadle Park 47-36 in the fifth-place dual.
Ephrata began the tournament with two wins over Lakeside and Gonzaga Prep 48-32 and 63-6, respectively.
Ephrata's run was halted by Lake City 51-27 before a loss on criteria to Cheney 42-42.
Sammy Flores (106) won by fall over Lakeside's Logan O'Dell and Lake City's Carson Dowell. Drew Anderson (195) picked up three wins by way of pin.
Warden wins Connell Tournament
CONNELL — Warden scored 191.5 points and won the Connell Tournament handily.
Anthony Martinez (120) and Bryce Martinez (126) finished first for the light weights.
Tyrone Mendez (195), Robert Arredondo (220) and Tommy Pruneda (285) placed first in the heavy weights.
