Put faith in God and get on with it

| December 4, 2016 12:00 AM

I find that, as I get older, I am more of a routine person than I used to be. When I get to work, I always make myself a cup of coffee (decaf) and sit down to read the news online.

I have always been a person who believed that you go to work no matter what because people are counting on you to do your part. I now have 170 sick leave days saved up in case something bad happens.

Over the years I have experienced difficult situations on occasion and I have had my share of disappointments but I usually showed up for work no matter what.

Through it all, I did what I had to do because I believe being responsible and dealing with the things life throws at me are fundamental to being a good person.

So, this morning I was shocked to read that after Donald Trump was elected president, colleges across our country canceled classes, brought in therapy dogs and even set up “crying rooms” for students who were having a hard time dealing with the outcome of the election.

Everything stopped because the students were disappointed.

Wow…really?

My first question was: Who is paying for this? My second question was: What is this teaching our young people?

In my entire voting career, only two of the candidates I voted for ever got elected, and I never once thought of not going to work to spend the day in a crying room.

Our young people seem to think that, if they cry and scream loud enough, they will get their own way. If that were true, then everyone would be crying and screaming.

In reality, no one gets their way all the time, and the way you deal with that shows what kind of character you have.

I know that I don’t know everything, but God does, and maybe there is an unseen reason things happen the way they do.

Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

I hope people come to realize that, to get through life’s difficult times, you need to put your faith in God and then get on with your life.
