Celtic singers, dancers in concert Saturday

MOSES LAKE — A trio of sisters performing folk music with a Celtic vibe will take the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Wallenstien Theatre. The performance by the Gothard Sisters is sponsored by the Central Basin Community Concert Association.
The concert replaces one scheduled for Nov. 3 that was canceled at short notice, according to CBCCA board members.
For many years the concert association was a subscription series, where only season tickets were available. Now tickets are available for individual concerts also. Tickets for Saturday are $33 per person and are available at the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce office, 324 South Pioneer Way, and at the door Saturday night.
Because the Nov. 3 concert was canceled, tickets purchased specifically for Nov. 3 will be honored Saturday, said CBCCA board member Marcene Favero.
The Gothard Sisters appeared in Moses Lake in February 2015, also sponsored by the concert association. Sisters Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard are from the Puget Sound area and are classically-trained musicians, according to their website, and bring that training to their folk music, especially Irish music.
The sisters also play guitar and other instruments, including a traditional Irish drum called the bodhran. They have training in dance, and used their experience to learn Irish dance steps after seeing the film “Riverdance.” They have incorporated the Irish dance into their concerts.
The trio recently released a new album, “Falling Snow,” featuring Christmas music. It’s their second Christmas release and fifth album overall. The sisters have been playing together since 2006, starting at a local farmers market.
The Central Basin Community Concert Association was formed in 1956 to bring live music to Moses Lake and the Columbia Basin. In its 62 years the association has sponsored everything from opera and art songs to folk and country music, to classical music to soul to pop music to gospel to an extensive variety of music.
Season tickets also come with reciprocal agreements for concerts sponsored by other community concert associations around the state. Members of CBCCA can attend concerts free of charge in Sunnyside, Wenatchee, Richland, Shelton, Longview, Bremerton, Centralia and Everett.
