OTHELLO — The election for the seat for Director District No. 5 of the East Columbia Irrigation District is scheduled for Dec. 13. Polls will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. for in-person voters.

Paul Booker and Orman Johnson are the candidates for the seat.

Voters may cast ballots in person at the Hatton City Hall, 150 Bronson Ave., or by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots can be obtained at the irrigation district’s headquarters, 55 North Eighth Ave, Othello.

Ballots must be postmarked by midnight Dec. 13, or can be returned in person to the Othello office on that day, said Craig Simpson, irrigation district manager.

Qualifying voters must own property within Division No. 5 and be Washington residents. Owners of less than 10 acres cast one vote; people with more than 10 acres cast two votes. Companies that own land can delegate voting rights to a designated entity. Landowners who have questions about voting status can contact the district’s main office.

District No. 5 is all of the irrigation district in Adams County, bounded on the north by the Grant-Adams county line and to the east by the district boundary. It also includes the section of the district in Franklin County, generally north and east of Connell, Simpson said.
