Royal's fall golf league under way
ROYAL CITY — The Royal Golf Association fall golf league has kicked off with six two-man teams. This is the first team league at the Royal Golf Course, following on the heels of the first individual play league last spring.
The league has completed its first two weeks of competition, and the team of Chad Smith and Riley Christensen took the first week lead with 13 points. The team of Bryce Dorsing and Josh and Kyle Scroggins was at the bottom with zero points.
The first week, a best ball and scramble competition, saw Jeremy Russell and Shawn Vetterick defeat Patrick Dorsing and Ray Valle, 61-65. The team of Andrew Perkins and Roger Trail topped the team of Kent Christensen and Alex Myrick, 63-65.
The team of Chad Smith and Riley Christensen got a forfeit from the team of Bryce Dorsing, Josh Scroggins and Kyle Scroggins. That accounted for the 13-point sweep.
The Dorsing, Scroggins, Scroggins team was set up with three players to ensure two would be available. Due to packed personal schedules, they have forfeited the first two weekends.
The season will go eight weeks. Each team will play the other teams once over five weeks. They will play 18 holes, with nine of best ball and nine of scramble.
In weeks 6-8, the teams will compete tournament style. Week 6 will be a Stableford competition over 18 holes. Week 7 will be a Chapman competition over 18 holes.
The season will conclude on the ninth week with 27 holes of a Ryder Cup type of format.
